TIPS FOR COMMON DENTAL EMERGENCIES

Dental Emergency: tooth knocked out socket

Gently rinse with water to remove all residual debris. Be careful not to over rinse and scrub the side of the tooth. There are vital healthy cells on the side of the tooth structure which enables your Pingree Grove dentist with necessary treatment. Place the tooth back in the socket if possible. If the tooth does not go back into the socket then place the tooth inside a clean plastic ziploc bag filled with milk or sterile water. The sooner you get to a dental professional, better the chances of us being able to save the tooth and provide adequate treatment to avoid a tooth loss. Please call our office right away so we can get you seen as soon as possible.

Dental Emergency: broken tooth

Rinse the affected area with warm water. If there is sensitivity cover the tooth with a cotton gauze so air does not hit the fractured tooth. Avoid eating anything on the affected side and call our office right away.

Dental Emergency: tongue toothache

Rinse in the area of concern. Take over the conter pain medication that your body is normally accustomed to. Then call our office.

Dental Emergency: Temporary Crown falls out

Remove excess cement in the temporary crown with a toothpick. Go to the grocery store or pharmacy and ask for temp crown adhesive or denture adhesive. Place a dab of adhesive in the crown with a cutip. Then push the temporary crown in its normal position, and excess cement or adhesive. Then give our office a call.

Dental Emergency: tooth pain

Take an over the counter ibuprofen as you do with any other minor aches and/or pains as long as you are not allergic to the medication. DO NOT place the medication like aspirin around the area directly and do not leave it in the mouth. Doing this will cause significant damage to the surrounding gums and tissues. Toothaches can be caused by a number of things so keeping the affected area clean with warm water rinses and flossing to make sure no food or debris is lodged between teeth is advisable. Call our office right away so we can get you an appointment.

Dental Emergency: broken fillings or lost crowns

  • Call us immediately for an appointment. Try to keep the area clean with normal hygiene, rinsing with room temperature water, and come to see us right away so a proper evaluation and treatment can be rendered. If a temporary or permanent crown came off, bring it into the office and have your dentist evaluate the crown to see if it can be placed back. Try to avoid using ‘glue’ bought in a retail store to place the crown back in. This can cause permanent damage to the underlying tooth and may hinder the restoration useless.
  • As with any emergency, it is important to stay calm. If you notice abnormal swelling and have difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking, please go to your nearest emergency room for prompt care.

I am happy to tell others that Dr. Patel is a excellent dentist. My mother had implants done that were perfect.  We are willing to travel the extra time to have our teeth done right.

My mom says I have to write this because I lost the bet.  Dr. Patel was a good dentist.  He made me feel safe.  He made my teeth better. Thank you Dr. Patel for your work.

Karen O.

I am happy with the service and quality of the dental work.  I had a cavity, and they fixed it.  Service is fast and they have coffee in the office which I appreciated. Thank again!
