Here at Pingree Smile Center, our entire team is dedicated to making sure patients in pain are seen and treated in a timely manner. We promise to do everything we can to accommodate dental emergencies on the same day or the next business day. Dental emergencies should not be ignored. Proper evaluation and treatment in a timely manner will help prevent further damage and help you avoid costly, more invasive treatment alternatives. Common dental emergencies include painful wisdom teeth, toothache relating to cavities, pain in jaw joints or gums, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, locked jaws, chipped or broken fillings, and swelling in the gums and/or mouth. Your Pingree Grove dentists will try their best to attend to all dental emergencies as quickly as possible. Please call our office at (847)462-4330 as soon as possible so that we can accommodate you without the long wait of the same day or the next business day. We are conveniently located in the Starks Crossing shopping plaza and offer evening and weekend hours for busy families and working professionals.
If you are experiencing tooth pain, contact us right away at (847)462-4330
Gently rinse with water to remove all residual debris. Be careful not to over-rinse and scrub the side of the tooth. There are vital healthy cells on the side of the tooth structure which enables your Pingree Grove dentist with necessary treatment. Place the tooth back in the socket if possible. If the tooth does not go back into the socket, then place the tooth inside a clean plastic Ziploc bag filled with milk or sterile water. The sooner you get to a dental professional, the better the chances of us being able to save the tooth and provide adequate treatment to avoid tooth loss. Please call our office right away so we can get you seen as soon as possible.
Rinse the affected area with warm water. If there is sensitivity, cover the tooth with cotton gauze so air does not hit the fractured tooth. Avoid eating anything on the affected side and call our office right away.
Rinse in the area of concern. Take over-the-counter pain medication that your body is normally accustomed to. Then call our office.
Remove excess cement in the temporary crown with a toothpick. Go to the grocery store or pharmacy and ask for temp crown adhesive or denture adhesive. Place a dab of adhesive in the crown with a cup. Then, push the temporary crown in its normal position and add excess cement or adhesive. Then give our office a call.
Take an over-the-counter ibuprofen as you do with any other minor aches and/or pains as long as you are not allergic to the medication. DO NOT place the medication like aspirin around the area directly, and do not leave it in the mouth. Doing this will cause significant damage to the surrounding gums and tissues. Toothaches can be caused by a number of things, so keeping the affected area clean with warm water, rinses, and flossing to make sure no food or debris is lodged between teeth is advisable. Call our office right away so we can make an appointment for you.
